Amp Pipal hospital began in 1957 as a tiny dispensary, set up by Jonathan Lindell from United Mission to Nepal. It has grown over the years, so that it now is a 46 bedded hospital seeing thousands of patients per year. UMN developed and ran the hospital until 2001, when it was handed over to a local board, under the authority of the Nepal government. It currently receives support from Nepalmed, a German charity and provides ongoing surgical and medical care for the surrounding population.
